African Blesbok Hunting
Blesbok live on the open plains of the South African high lands, primarily grazers. The females and young stay in herds, while the males will spend most of the time roaming on their own.
Blesbuck has a brown neck, and top of their back, with a while belly. They have a white flash above and below the eyes. Both the male and female have horns, therefore care must be taken when hunting either.
The best time for Blesbuck hunting the morning or late afternoon when they can be found grazing, similar to other species, they tend to lay in the shade during the hottest part of the day.
Hunting Blesbok on the plains can be challenging, and often requires a long your shots. The Blesbok acts in the same way as their cousin, the Bontebok, standing together in heads facing the sun, faces low to the ground. They often shakes their heads violently, stamps the ground and run in circles only to resume their original place. As with similar species daily water is essential therefore hunting Blesbok near waterholes can prove very productive.
The Blesbok was once close to extension, this antelope has been widely reintroduced to the game farms of southern Africa boasting the population into the hundreds of thousands, a success story for the benefits of hunting and conservation.
Best rifle For Hunting Blesbok include calibre like .270 or .300 magnums; bullets from 130 to 150 grains give best results for long shots on the plain. If hunting Blesbok in the bush, you may prefer a heavy caliber round nose bullet.
As with any hunt, the aim is the most important aspect, aim your shot along the rear line of the fore-leg one third up into the body, hitting the heart or lungs, which will give a clean kill.
Failure to aim properly, will mean you fail to get a clean kill, making the animal suffer unecessarly, and will also mean you will have to track your prey to finishi them of, therefore take your time to ensure the first shot is the only shot required – happy hunting!
